HOMEWORK HELP for PARENTS

HELPING YOUR CHILD WITH HOMEWORK can sometimes be a struggle.   Psrents want to help, but they often become frustrated because of the various problems they encounter when they try.  Does your child seem listless, unmotivated?  Does your child become easily distracted and procrastinates instead of getting to the task?  Does your child colnsistently say there is no homework and then finally confesses that he/she did not do it in time?  Then you know what I am talking about.

There is a right way and a wrong way to help a child with homework.  First, the parent should be aware that sometimes problems other than lack of motivatgion could keep their child behind.  The child may have medical problems which should be checked.  Second, the child may have some problem with anxiety that should be attended to.  Parents have a big job in trying to be observant, but it is important.   Another problem may be lack of exercise or lack of recreation to help them relax.    Or maybe the child is eating too many junk foods that you are not aware he has access to.  Or maybe the child has become too dependent upon tutors to help him/her get by.

We need to make our children aware of how they can help themselves while we stay around trying to facilitate their growth.   We want to make them become independent learners as much as possible. That means knowing howto set up an environment which has maximum benefit, as well as a system of helping without being overbearing or allowing the children to procrastinate.
